How to Prepare Your Children for a Photoshoot

A great photoshoot isn’t about perfectly behaved children. It’s about kids feeling comfortable enough to be themselves. A little preparation helps, without turning it into a big production.

Keep It Simple!

Let your children know you’re having some photos taken and it will be fun. Avoid building it up too much or putting pressure on them to smile or behave a certain way. The more relaxed the expectation, the better the outcome.

Choose outfits your children can move in and feel good wearing. Soft fabrics and simple colours photograph beautifully. If they’re uncomfortable, it will show. Letting them help choose what they wear often makes a big difference.

Rested and Fed Is Best

A well-rested, well-fed child is a happier child. Try to avoid nap times and bring water or a small snack, especially for longer sessions.

Some of the best photos come from natural moments, not posed ones. Trust your photographer and resist the urge to correct every movement. There’s no rush.

Stay Calm

Your energy sets the tone. If you’re relaxed, your children will be too. Think of the photoshoot as time together, not a performance.
